While working in my yard yesterday, I came across two very unexpected sweet surprises. The first was this sunflower that seriously just popped out of nowhere.
I hastily admit that we have an unkempt area by our trash cans that desperately needs some TLC. It is mostly a bed of dirt with some weeds and out of this mess this beautiful, single sunflower has revealed itself. We do not have any sunflowers anywhere on our property so how this just developed, I will never know but I love it.
My second surprise was when I looked down and saw this heart-shaped rock staring right at me sending me all its love.
Funny how such simple things can make you feel so good. I hope your Sunday holds many sweet surprises for you. Enjoy!

Love Sunflowers and finding a heart-shaped rock is a nice surprise:)
Made me smile!
How pretty!! And finding a heart rock must be a good sign.
I snapped some pics of a few bugs with my macro lens. Seriously? Highlight of my day. It’s the little things.
If we are aware, it is the little things throughout our days that keep us smiling through life.
Love the heart rock, I actually have a collection of them. I keep finding them………cool beans…….shalom en theos…..jim
That’s very cool!
I told you recently that your photos just plain old rock…
haha
And now they rock heart-shaped, that even better!
A lovely burst of colour, much needed here in dismally soggy and cool London!
I’m glad it brought you a little sunshine to your day ~ we have plenty to spare here.
Your sunflower was most likely from bird poop. That how a lot of vegetation gets around. Maybe the bird was like a Woody Allen’s long guilt ridden rant was concluded. Poor bird…beautiful gift though. You are lucky.
Oh my! I didn’t think of that but it would make sense. Sort of ruins my mystical image of what happened but it’s reality.
Still a nice thought that something so beautiful can come from $h*t.
Lol, I didn’t mean to crush your mystical dreams. I mean reality stinks. Love your blog! -amy
hehe
and thank you for the compliment.
Hey! I love your photos and your blog, so I nominated you for a Very Inspiring Blogger and One Lovely Blog Award.
I mentioned you here: http://lcsranieriphotography.wordpress.com/2012/06/10/more-awards/
Wow, that’s so kind of you! Thank you so much. I will take a look at the link and I like to show my appreciation by adding you to my Dazzles page. Thank you so much for the honor.
Or, from a squirrel! We had a squirrel invade our garage last fall and get into the stored birdseed. This spring when I pulled out the garden soil to work on replantings, I found he had “stored” some sunflower seeds in the bag and they were sprouting. I decided to plant them and now have a half dozen sunflowers growing. Usually, I don’t encourage squirrels around my garden, but this year he has a bye since he contributed to our flower collection!
That’s funny!
LOL ! I was just going to leave a note that a squirrel planted it for you, but someone beat me to it !
LOL! I guess I have to come to terms that it wasn’t the immaculate conception that I originally thought it was.
Could you pass on the unexpected Sunflower Surprise please? I love sunflowers.
Although my dog might try to eat it . Now that I think about it, he’d probably eat the rock too…
Funny you should say that because when one of my German Shepherds saw me photographing it he was running around trying to investigate and I thought for sure he was going to flatten it! Amazingly it is still standing.
Yeah, I’d need a fence just to keep the plant life safe. German Shepherds sure are gorgeous, but man when they get going with that tail, watch out! lol Good luck to your sunflower
a lucky day for you
Great photos too
Yes it was.
Treasures that do not require digging! Great finds, great pics.
Wise words my friend and so true, all we need to do is really see what is in front of us.
The rock is beckoning and the sunflower is luring you. Time to attend to the trash can space.
These are lovely photos, as always. Have you posted photos of your dogs? The German Shepherd was a very popular dog when I was a child in N.C., but I rarely see them here in Texas. They are gorgeous, loyal to a fault, and very smart. I have no idea why I don’t see them here. Maybe the heavy coat?
Oh George! Don’t make me face the reality of cleaning that space up.
No, I have not posted my dogs yet and I keep meaning to. I will do it soon.
Beautiful, Susan. With all the bird seed we go through I always expect to have a surprise sunflower, but it hasn’t happened yet. The heart shaped stone is certainly a rare find.
I suspect that one day you will walk out and there it will be, a sunflower waiting to greet you.
Sunflowers always make me smile.
