A Prayer For Natalie
If you think about it, there is really very little news in life that truly drops your stomach to the ground and knocks you for a loop. We hear things that surprise us, might hurt us, angers us, and so forth which garners a reaction, but that gut-wrenching news, the type you truly never want to hear, luckily doesn’t come too often.
Today I had a moment when my stomach fell to the floor for a split second, and in that moment, I realized how precious and fragile life is.
My best friend of over 33 years has a 16 year old daughter who recently started to drive. As a parent, I’m sure it’s hard to let go of the reigns and let your children find their own way in this jungle we call life ~ but it’s the law of nature. It happens whether you like it or not. So you know where I’m going with this…my dearest friend’s daughter was in a serious car accident this weekend (she was not driving, a friend her same age was). I first got the news as a voice mail message and when I heard “Nat has been in a car accident”, that is the moment my stomach dropped. I wasn’t sure I wanted to hear the next sentence but she went on to say “she’s be airlifted to a hospital”.
With my mind spinning, I frantically try calling my friend to connect with her. Thank goodness she answers the phone ~ I’m preparing myself for the worse but when I hear her voice I know it’s not so. I’m informed that she is seriously injured with a bad hip fracture and she will be going into surgery tomorrow, but she’s alive and will fully recover. My heart starts beating with some consistency again and I can breathe. For a moment, I put myself in my friend’s shoes and wonder how she must have felt to hear that news ~ it’s unimaginable to me.
Why am I posting this? Because I believe in the power of prayer, of putting thoughts out into universe so they can be heard and answered. Although it does not appear to be a life threatening situation any longer, I am still saying my prayers that her surgery goes well and that she recovers fully and quickly ~ and if you have it in your heart to do the same, it would be sincerely appreciated.
I also bring this up because LIFE IS PRECIOUS! It can be taken away at any moment. If you have not personally received one of these gut wrenching calls yourself, use this as a lesson to appreciate who and what you have in your life every single moment! Don’t let silly, unimportant things ~ including your pride and ego ~ keep you from expressing your love to someone important. It’s truly all that matters in life!
Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile.
