These kayaks belong to my husband and me. This picture was taken a summer or two ago when we docked in Half Moon Bay for a lunch break.
Ocean Kayaking is my favorite sport. I can’t explain it but it is a euphoric feeling for me to glide through the ocean waters, listening only to the rhythmic sound of the salt water splashing against my kayak, and sharing my day with sea otters, seals and seagulls who circle around me with curiosity. It is I who has invaded their territory, so I move with respect for their domain. This is a gift that reminds me of how small I am and makes me appreciate the wonders of the world. Sounds cheesy I know, but this is one of the things in life that centers me. What centers you?
(My apologies ~ not a great quality photo but I liked the image for the challenge.)

My husband and I met on a kayak/camping trip… needless to say we are also fond of kayaking.
Great way to meet and nice way to keep celebrating.
Love it – oh so much fun to be out on the water:)
The best!
I grew up not far from the beaches of Southern California. Surprising, then, that I’m not really an ocean person. But I love photos of oceans, lakes, streams, rivers, you name it. And all kinds of ocean craft. So, obviously, I love your photo.
Even to look at photos of water is soothing for the soul.
Great story, my wife centers me.
I love that John! Perfect answer.
Hi, I love your blog! I’ve nominated you for a blog award. You can see it here: http://johnmullinax.wordpress.com/2012/04/27/curmudgeonly/
Thanks for sharing your photography!
You are so sweet, John. Thank you for that honor. I will post more in detail but I have added you to my Dazzles page as I do like to pay my gratitude for your kindness. Very much appreciated.

I find such joy and inspiration from your images and posts! My loves kayaking as do I, so we are gonna give this another shot this year, hopefully in Key West and Maine. Thanks, cheers!
….and that would be..”MY WIFE loves kayaing, as do I”…peanut butter on the keyboard again i guess..lololol..
LOL! Thank you for your kind words, it is your blog that inspires me so I very much appreciate you stopping by and commenting. I jet skied in Key West but have not kayaked there, it sounds fun. Heading up to Seattle to kayak the San Juan Islands is high on my list. I’ve actually seen videos of whales jumping out of the water feet from kayakers, That might be a bit close for me but from a little further away it would be heaven!
So charming! I love this image
Thank you, Mimo!
I think your photo is a fine one, actually – but what got me is the notion you related of treading lightly as an intruder among the sea otters and their pals. If only everyone thought that way!
Thank you, Sid. I suppose everyone has certain things in life that they appreciate doing and that makes them think beyond themselves ~ that is what kayaking does for me.
Great image for the challenge!
Thanks Madhu ~ I always love seeing what great image you have found as well.

Love the photo! They also remind me of Dutch wooden shoes, in a way. My pets center me. I love my husband in a million ways, but the critters get me out of myself in a way he can’t.
So true ~ I think it’s the unconditional (no talk back) love pets gives us.
I love this shot and the story that it brings. The yellow really makes the kayaks pop in the frame. Great vignetting too.
Thank you. When we purchased the kayaks we specifically chose yellow for the pop factor so we could be seen by boats, etc when kayaking in crowded locations but it does work well for photos too!
Really like your photography. Good eye for design, I do believe you are a designer! With the opportunity to travel, having access to varying picturesque scenery, if you were interested, you could submit your work to photo stock companies, and probably do very well. They are looking for scenes that carry a message. Your photography is very symbolic! I have been doing some research and will probably submit some of my work. Thank you for visiting my website and looking at my photos of Main St. Station in Richmond, VA.
Thank you so much for your kind comments. Funny you should mention about the stock photography because it is something I’ve been considering as I already have been approached by individuals. What sites do you do this on? I know of Istock but I’m not familiar with these sites too much.
